A 3-month-old girl is hospitalized and her baby sitter has been charged with felony assault, Anchorage police say.
Daniel Burns Jr., 18, is accused of assaulting the child Friday, while caring for the infant when her mother was out, police said. It appears the child was crying, so Burns, trying to stop her, stuck his finger down her throat in frustration, said police Sgt. Cindi Stanton, supervisor of the crimes against children unit.
When the girl's mother returned, she found the child crying uncontrollably, police said. After the crying didn't stop overnight, the mother took her to a hospital where doctors discovered her injuries.
Burns was arrested Sunday on a second-degree assault charge and was being held on $5,000 bail. Police did not have an updated condition on the child Monday.
